Who We Are

The Quercus Cooperative was a conception of necessity.

We are a group of year-round, island residents who make our livings in the Building Industry. We have witnessed, firsthand, the drastic escalation of construction price-per-square foot since the pandemic, and many of us have personally experienced the impacts this has had on housing and building opportunities. How to solve the housing crisis on the Island is probably the most pervasive local dinner party conversation October - May. Whether you’re a business owner losing staff, a year-round family in search of secure housing, or a summer resident with grandchildren on the way, we are all in search of affordable solutions.

Indeed, conversations around our dinner tables was exactly how Quercus was conceived. How can we streamline design and construction to create something so efficiently, that it is accessible to more of us?

After 3 years of rigorous research, hundreds of drawings, and cold calls to suppliers and subcontractors throughout New England, we have developed a system and set of principles that can produce a finished project - with natural materials - for less than $400/ SF, that price decreases as the project scales up.

Utilizing SIPS construction, we are able to fully customize the design - this is NOT a modular house - and are able to achieve above code energy standards creating high efficiency homes. We source natural finish materials for every budget.
